(ANSAmed) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 3 - For the first time, Algeria
is examining the possibility of giving licences to foreign
companies for the large-scale farming of corn. This is according
to Mohammed Elewee, chair of the Federation of Algerian Farmers,
who was quoted by the Al Quds Al Arabi newspaper.
Without giving any names, Elewee said that he had received
requests from companies in France, Italy, Canada and other Arab
countries. Corn farming is on a small scale in Algeria and is
limited to small owners who sell the product directly, often on
the side of the road. (ANSAmed).
