TOURISM: 7% LESS TOURISTS IN SERBIA THAN IN 2009

(ANSAmed) - BELGRADE, SEPTEMBER 2 - There were 1,113.571 tourists who visited Serbia since January till June, which is 7% less than the number of tourists who visited the country over the same period of time last year, the Tourist Organization of Serbia announced, reports VIP Daily News Report.

According to the Bureau of Statistics, there were 747,349 local tourists (67%) and 366,222 foreign (33%) tourists over that period of time. There were 3,573.016 overnight stays in the first seven months of this year, which is 15% less than in 2009.

The local tourists made 2,792.089 overnight stays (78%), whereas the foreign ones made 780,927 (22%).

The local tourists mostly visited spa resorts (40%), whereas 30% of them visited mountains. The foreign tourists mostly visited major administrative centers (60%), whereas 20% of them visited other destinations. The foreign tourists mostly visited Belgrade 411,030 overnight stays, which is 18% less than over the same period of time in 2009 - Novi Sad and Zlatibor.

Out of European and non-European countries, most of the overnight stays in the first seven months of this year were made by the tourists who came from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Slovenia, Croatia and Italy.(ANSAmed).
