(ANSAmed) - BELGRADE/PRISTINA, NOVEMBER 24 - Twenty-one Kfor
military were harmed during last night's clashes having occurred
near the barricade built by the Serbs in Northern Kosovo. That
is what Kfor (NATO Kosovo forces) spokesman Uwe Novitzki. One of
the military was run over by a truck and was severely injured,
the spokesman added.
According to Novitzki, NATO soldiers had to intervene to
remove a barricade in Dudin Krs, near Zvecan. According to
Nowitzki, demonstrators threw stones and other objects against
the military and unloaded gravel from trucks in order to create
some checkpoints on the road. Kfor shot some warning shots in
the air and used tear gas. The NATO military, the spokesman
added, decided to abandon the action and withdraw, in order to
avoid a further increase in the clashes and possible serious
losses on both sides.
Representatives of Serbian municipalities in Northern Kosovo
(where Serbs make up for the majority of the population) accused
NATO troops of having used the force, thus violating yesterday's
agreement not to implement unilateral action. The spokeswoman
also added that during the morning the situation was calm, even
if tension remains high. (ANSAmed).
