(ANSAmed) - CAIRO, SEPTEMBER 15 - Egypt's liberal opposition
party Al Ghad ('Tomorrow') has announced that it will be
boycotting the legislative elections in November, joining the
boycott called by former head of the UN International Atomic
Energy Agency Mohammed El Baradei and his movement, the National
Association for Change.
The association set up by El Baradei, who many consider a
potential candidate for Egypt's 2011 presidential elections, has
said that it does not want to take part in the voting ''due to
the lack of real guarantees to prevent election fraud''.
''We are following El Baradei's position in the boycott,''
said Al Ghad's president, Ayman Nour. ''He is a man who has done
a lot to bring about change and we have a great deal of respect
for him.''
On the election boycott, however, the Egyptian opposition
remains divided: the Muslim Brotherhood, which has 88 of its
representatives in parliament, and the liberal nationalist party
Al Wafd are still planning on taking part.(ANSAmed).
