(ANSAmed) - CAIRO, NOVEMBER 24 - Syria accepted to sign the
protocol of the Arab League observers' mission, according to
Mena press agency. A source from the Arab League reported that
Secretary General Nabil el Araby received Damascus' reply by
Foreign Minister Walid el Moallem, who accepted to sign the
protocol on the observers'mission. The source added that,
according to Syria's official reply (which is due to be read by
el Araby during the Arab ministers' plenary session) the
protocol will be signed by Deputy Foreign Minister Faissal al
Mikdad.
The observers' mission and civilians' protection, prioritized
by the League during a meeting in Rabat on November 16th, was
the focus of the attention of the League's Ministerial Committee
currently gathered in Cairo. The Committee will also discuss
imposition of sanctions on Syria after Damascus failed to
implement the Arab plan signed on November 2nd with the aim to
put an end to violence in Syria. The summit will tale place in a
large hotel in the Cairo suburbs, due to the fact that the
Pan-Arab insitution's headquarters are based very near Tahrir
Square. (ANSAmed).
