ANSAmed: THE ANSA AGENCY IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
ANSAmed was created by ANSA to cover current affairs in the Mediterranean. Its mission is to be the hub for providing information concerning the region, as well as to promote communication between the countries in the area. ANSAmed is based on the same traditional characteristics of reliability, promptness, completeness and pluralism that have made ANSA a brand of quality journalism in Italy and throughout the world. ANSA has been present in the Mediterranean for decades and, as a result, has created a network of integrated communications that, focusing on the exchange of journalistic information, brings together political, economic, social and cultural situations that, despite being relatively close geographically speaking, have a significant historical distance between each another.
The ANSAmed package consists of a news stream of about 200 stories and reports per day, in English, Italian and Arabic. The news covers the events in the region: from the main Euro-Mediterranean and Middle Eastern political news to economic reports from the area and the rest of the world, from economic and industrial trends to information on tourism, transport, the environment and energy, the fundamental sectors in the process of the Euro-Mediterranean integration supported by the Union for the Mediterranean, which was launched in Paris in July 2008.
The package is put together by the ANSAmed editorial team, based in Rome’s historic seat of Palazzo della Dataria, which, as well as covering events of interest in Italy and abroad, edits, organises and publishes online the material sent in by the vast network of ANSA correspondents, including Italy’s 20 regions. With the cooperation of the main press agencies of countries in the region, ANSAmed gathers, selects and circulates news that is indispensable to decision-makers operating in the area. ANSAmed has become a forum for the exchange of news about the Mediterranean and for the Mediterranean.
It is a network of communication between people that have a leading role in economic, political, social and cultural fields. ANSAmed provides a way to contribute to the exchange of information and ideas mooted by the UFM, which aims to create a “Mediterranean culture” based primarily on the carrying out of concrete projects between different countries.
